Description of role We're looking for an exceptional Corporate/M&A lawyer to join our Legal team. This is a high impact role advising on strategic transactions across the Bank suited to someone with deep corporate transactional experience gained in private practice and/or a major listed financial services firm. Key responsibilities Corporate & Transactional Support Lead and support a wide range of corporate and M&A transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, strategic investments and group reorganisations. Provide comprehensive legal advice across the full transaction lifecycle: structuring, due diligence, documentation, negotiation and closing. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external counsel to ensure transactions are executed efficiently, with clear risk identification and mitigation. Support cross border matters and work with relevant jurisdictions as required. Transaction structuring and assisting with legal aspects in the preparation of credit and/or investment papers. Assisting with all ‘business as usual' matters. Leverage appropriate bank specific AI tools to enhance efficiency gains and elevate strategic output while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical standards. Risk Management & Advisory Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across corporate activities. Develop and maintain internal corporate governance policies and frameworks. Stakeholder Management Build effective working relationships with the business and senior leadership. Provide clear, concise and commercially grounded advice to non legal stakeholders. Manage and oversee external legal advisers to ensure value, quality and consistency of service. Core skills and knowledge Essential Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction). Post-qualification experience (4+ PQE) gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house within financial services. Strong technical expertise in corporate transactions, including SPAs, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, investment agreements and corporate restructurings. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and balance risk with commercial outcomes. Experience within a FTSE-listed or regulated financial institution. Proficient in assessing information, identifying risks, and developing strategies to address complex legal issues. Skills and Attributes Commercial, solutions oriented and pragmatic. Confident communicator able to convey complex issues clearly. Strong relationship builder with a collaborative approach. High level of integrity and alignment with Investec's culture and values. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and balance risk with commercial outcomes.
