Monday
Weather
Bright and breezy. Some bubbly clouds, especially over the southeastern quadrant of the Island. Otherwise, sunny skies but a rather chilly breeze doing battle with the daytime heating. The UV will peak at around 5, so outdoor workers should start to think (if they haven’t already) about using some skin protection. And it probably won’t feel obvious, because the temperature will only peak at 12°C and the force 4-5 NW’ly wind will make it feel as though it’s only about 8°C.
Surf and the Water
The 4 foot surf will be very choppy on the west coast, but it should be pretty good for windsurfing and kitesurfing here. Over on the south and east coasts, the swimming conditions will be ok, especially as the tide comes quite high in the latter part of the day. Low water will be around midday, high water will be 8.3m just after 6pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Much lighter winds than over the past few days. Furthermore, we will have inherently warmer air sitting over the Islands. Therefore, the temperature will be all about how much sunshine manages to sneak between the clouds. Yes indeed, the cloud will be abundant, but if we are treated to a break around lunchtime, when the sun is highest in the sky, then a 13-14°C max is quite possible. The breeze will remain NW’ly in direction, but only be light force 2 to 3, so it’s going to feel very relaxed and comfortable, perfect for outdoor sports and for general running, walking and cycling. Night time temperatures again dependent on cloudiness, probably falling to about 8-9°C at the coolest moment, but maybe 6-7°C if skies become clear for longer than expected.
Surf and the Water
The wind will still be onshore, but being so much lighter the surf will be a bit cleaner. Tuesday will have 4-5 foot powerful waves, and Wednesday will have 2-3 foot weaker waves. Swimming conditions will be ok in various nooks on all coasts, but again they will be best of all on the south and east coasts. Tides will be low at lunchtime and high at breakfast time and dinner time, increasing incrementally from 8.7m on Tuesday morning to 9.2m on Wednesday evening.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Thursday will be dry and partly sunny, with winds remaining light force 3, starting NW’ly like the previous days, but eventually becoming SW’ly, which will set is up for a stronger SW’ly on Friday (force 4-5), and a more classically cloudy day with spits and spots of light rain, drizzle and mist patches. Both days are likely to peak around 13°C, but Thursday might just extend to 14°C, and Friday might only end up with 12°C. Town will be the warmest area on both days, this being most noticeable on Friday. Mild at night, with mins of about 8-9°C on Thursday night and then 9-10°C on Friday night
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 1-3 foot surf on both days. Better swimming conditions generally on Thursday, better windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions on Friday. Tides will continue to be low at lunchtime and high at breakfast time and dinner time (generally 9.3 to 9.4m).
The Weekend
Weather
A force 5-6 S’ly wind on Saturday, followed by a force 3-4 W’ly on Sunday. This will bring mild air both days, but the weather and the general feeling will be more pleasant on Sunday due to the relaxing of the wind. Both days will be partly sunny and probably dry… the current expectation being that the only spell of rain will fall in the middle of the night. Temperatures likely peaking around 13°C by day, and falling to 8-9°C overnight.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish surf both days, especially Saturday when it will be about 4 feet. Sunday then going on to be about 6 feet. Saturday will be the best day for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Sunday will be the best for swimmers. High tides will be at breakfast time and then again after dusk (reducing incrementally from 9.2m to 8.8m). Low tides in the early afternoons.
The next forecast update will be most likely be on Wednesday or Thursday…
