Monday
Weather
A gorgeous day because it will be just as sunny as Sunday, but with very little wind indeed… only a light force 2 SW’ly. This means we will probably peak at 14°C in most places and 15°C in Town. That’s only one degree higher than on Sunday, but with no wind-chill on this occasion it will probably feel as though it’s about four degrees warmer. The night will be starry and cool again, but a force 3 S’ly breeze will pick up and stop the temperature from plummeting too far… probably bottoming out at 7°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be nice and clean (just a very light cross-offshore breeze)… 4-5 feet at dawn, reducing to 3 feet by dusk. Swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will be great on all coasts. Tides will be low at 10:30am and then 7.2m high at 4:45pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Tuesday will be a cloudier day than previously expected, but the cloud will be very high, so if any rain falls from it then it probably won’t reach the ground. If I’m wrong about that then it would only be a few spits and spots in the evening time. Winds will be moderate force 4 SSE’ly, which will be bring increasingly mild air, probably peaking at 14-15°C around 4 or 5pm. The night time will stay mild, falling no lower than 10-11°C, the sky remaining cloudy and then rain eventually arriving by Wednesday morning. The rain will then be on and off, never amounting to much, only about 1mm, so not a great impediment to outdoor activity and neither a great dose of hydration for thirsty fields and gardens. Wednesday’s wind and temperature will both be similar to Tuesday’s, but there is a chance that it could be a degree warmer, if some sunshine finds any decent cracks in the cloud-sheet.
Surf and the Water
Clean 2-3 foot surf for almost the entire time. Only increasing to 4-5 feet on Wednesday evening, when it might also turn a little choppier. And the smooth-water activities should be good through most of this time too, on all coasts but especially the north and west. Tides will be low around midday and high around dawn and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 7.6m on Tuesday morning to 8.4m by Wednesday evening).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Partly sunny, partly cloudy, probably dry (only the slimmest chance of a passing shower on Friday evening). Best of all, the wind is looking very light, so the temperature will be above average for mid-April, but it will feel as though it’s even warmer. Thursday will have a SW’ly breeze that eases from light force 3 in the morning to light force 2 in the afternoon, this should lead to a max of around 16°C in Town. Friday’s breeze will be similarly light but ESE’ly in direction, so the west will be warmest area (by a whisker) and the max will probably be at least a degree higher.
Surf and the Water
Clean and solid surf… 6-8 feet on Thursday and 5-6 feet on Friday. Tides will be low at lunchtime and high at breakfast and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 8.9m on Tuesday morning to 9.4m by Wednesday evening). Still great for smooth-water activities too, but the waves and currents will be a bit hard to manage on the west coast, so all other coasts will be better in this respect.
The Weekend
Weather
A gentle NE’ly airflow, with cloudier skies than the previous days and a greater likelihood of showers, we will probably see a downturn in temperatures, with daily maxima of around 14-15°C. Generally very comfortable and pleasant though, with bags of opportunity for outdoor fun.
Surf and the Water
Yet more smooth water and clean surf… 4 feet on Saturday and 2-3 feet on Sunday. Big tides, with 9.6m highs around breakfast time and dusk both days.
The next forecast update will be most likely be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
