Tuesday
Weather
After a very soggy night, the rain will most likely clear towards the end of the morning rush-hour, the rest of the morning gradually giving way to partial sunshine. Only the small chance of one or two passing showers in the afternoon and evening, the next rain most likely coming after midnight, turning persistent and heavy for a time. The wind story will be a moderate force 4 NNW’ly around dawn, backing SW’ly by late evening, increasing fresh force 5 or perhaps strong force 6 after midnight. Daytime max 15-16°C. Overnight min 11-12°C.
Surf and the Water
A 2-foot long period swell, will likely stand up 3-4 on the reefs and be a bit of a close out on the west-coast beaches. Time will tell if it manages to produce anything decent on the south coast in the morning, when the window will be offshore there. Tidal movements will be tiny, with a high of only 6.6m in the early afternoon.
Wednesday
Weather
The overnight rain might wake us up early and feel like it’s a big repeat of the previous day, but on this occasion it should have all cleared away by the start of the morning rush-hour, leaving the entire day with a strong force 6 and rather gusty WNW’ly wind, long spells of sunshine and a few short sharp showers. The daytime max likely lower than on Tuesday, but the overnight min a little higher. Probably 15°C and 13°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
Maybe some clean waves for surfers on the south coast. The West Coast will be pretty massive (8-10 feet) but only really be of interest to windsurfers and kitesurfers. Tides will be low at 9:40am, then about 7.1m high at 3:50pm.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A nasty looking autumn storm is expected to sweep over from the nearby Atlantic. Details of its position and intensity are a little uncertain right now so be sure to keep monitoring the situation, because with soggy soil and many trees still in leaf, it is likely to be quite damaging. Current expectations are for Thursday to be virtually the same as Wednesday through daylight hours, but then in the evening for the wind to back from a force 5-6 W’ly to a gale force 8-9 S’ly with gusts as strong as 70mph. As the storm progresses across the UK on Friday morning, winds will veer W’ly and possibly increased by 10mph, before a slight relaxation to a strong force 6-7 NW’ly towards dusk. The worst of the rainfall will be on Thursday night and Friday morning. Yet another good reason to stay cosy indoors. Through the rest of the time we’re just looking at sunny spells and occasional squally showers. The temperatures will not vary much between night and day, generally fluctuating between 13 and 15°C.
Surf and the Water
Friday’s wind and waves are all looking a little too crazy for any activity at the moment, so Thursday will be the day to get your fill of windsurfing, kitesurfing or very choppy surfing. West-coast wave heights on that day around 4-5 feet, which is fraction of how big they’ll be on Friday. Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons (7.8m Thursday and 8.4m Friday).
The Weekend
Weather
A bit of relaxation in terms of wind, with the SW’ly just being force 4 on Saturday morning, a fresh force 5 W’ly on Saturday afternoon, and very little change until it veers NW’ly on Sunday afternoon. Weather-wise, it’s looking cloudy and damp until Sunday afternoon, when sunshine should prevail but the windchill will still make you zip up tight. Once again, the temperature will tend to fluctuate between roughly 13 and 15°C night and day.
Surf and the Water
The weather coast surf may be slightly cleaner on Saturday morning, but it will generally be a choppy 6-8 feet. Low tides around midday. High tides around dawn and dusk (increasing incrementally from 8.5m to 9.3m).
The next forecast update will be on Thursday…
