Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 18 March 2024

Tuesday

Weather

A cloudy day on the whole. The chance of some brighter skies around dawn and then again towards dusk. However, through the time in between, a weak weather front will sit just to the northwest of the Island… definitely close enough to throw a load of its cloud over us. The question is whether it will be close enough to give us a little mist and drizzle. If this does happen then it’s most likely to be around late morning and lunchtime, but there is an equal chance that we will stay dry. In either scenario, the breeze will still blow from a S’ly direction… moderate force 4 early morning, decreasing to light force 2 by late afternoon… leading to a comfortable max temperature of around 14°C.

Surf and the Water

Clean 4 foot surf, gradually increasing to 6 feet. Some decent swimming conditions on the north coast and on the west coast too, but generally in the more sheltered bays like Cobo. Tiny tidal movements. Low tide will be at 8:20pm and high tide will be at 2:50pm (just 6.2m).

Wednesday and Thursday

Weather

Some soft sunshine is likely at times, but these days do look mostly cloudy, much like the previous few. That said, they should be dry throughout, and there will barely be a breath of wind until a force 4 W’ly kicks in around dusk on Thursday. Temperatures will continue to peak around 14°C and these lovely calm conditions will lead to a lovely comfortable feeling, which will be highly appropriate for the Vernal Equinox, marking the moment when the southern hemisphere passes the batten of summer to the northern hemisphere.

Surf and the Water

Tides will be low in the late mornings and high in the late afternoons, increasing from 6.7m on Wednesday to 7.3m on Thursday. Lovely swimming conditions on all coasts, especially on Wednesday afternoon and around dawn on Thursday. The surf will be lovely and glassy through the majority of this time… 4-5 feet, gradually reducing to 2-3 feet.

Friday and the Weekend

Weather

A fresh and gusty force 5 WNW’ly wind will develop through Friday morning, increasing to a strong force 6 NW’ly by Saturday morning, perhaps ramp up to strong force 7 at times in the afternoon, before gradually decreasing fresh force 5 again on Sunday. This will bring sunshine and occasional heavy showers on Friday and Saturday (probably just sunshine on Sunday). Max temps will be 11-12°C on Friday, then 10-11°C on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will feel quite a bit colder than that due to the wind strength, but Sunday might actually feel a little warmer if you head to the south coast, due to both the shelter and the bountiful sunshine.

Surf and the Water

Messy 2-3 foot surf, increasing 4-5 feet for a time on Saturday. Conditions will only be smooth enough for swimming in the most sheltered southern and eastern bays, such as Fermain, Moulin Huet, Saints and Petit Bot. Tides will be high around dawn and dusk (7.7m increasing incrementally to 8.7m). Low tides will be close to midday.

The next forecast update will be on Thursday …
