Saturday
Weather
Some very heavy rain through the morning, turning to intermittent showers by lunchtime (which still have the potential to be heavy. The afternoon should be mostly, if not entirely, dry though. The wind will be quite light whilst the rain is persistent… just a force 3 S’ly, gradually veering NNW’ly. Then during the drier hours, we will have a more perky WNW’ly… generally moderate force 4 but occasionally fresh force 5. Nothing too crazy, considering that this is a named storm… ‘Lilian’, but certainly windy enough to spoil any warming that we would otherwise get from the afternoon/evening sunshine. The max temperature will be about 18°C, except in Town where we will probably sneak up to 19°C.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 4-5 foot surf early morning, becoming slightly choppy around the late morning high, then very choppy through the rest of the day, although there might be some shapely little waves for family fun on bodyboards down at Petit Bot in the afternoon. Tides will be 9.3m high around 10:30am and 11pm. Low tide will be around 5pm.
Sunday
Weather
In terms of dryness, this will definitely be the better (more useful) day of the weekend, by a long shot. However, in terms of wind, there will be very little difference from the drier half of Saturday. Still rather brisk… moderate force 4, occasionally fresh force 5. The only slight difference being that the direction will be WSW’ly rather than WNW’ly, meaning that a north-coast beach such as Pembroke will be more sheltered than a south-coast beach such as Petit Bot. The max temperature will be either the same as on Saturday or maybe a degree higher, so there is a chance that we will just tip 20°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be marginally cleaner than on Saturday afternoon, but still more choppy than we would really like it to be. The waves still standing at an impressive 4-5 feet on the best sets though. If you are looking for super-smooth water, to simply have a swim, then Pembroke would be lovely, as would super-sheltered east-coast beaches like Fermain and Havelet. Tides will be 8.7m high around 11:15am and then low around 5:30pm.
Bank Holiday Monday and Tuesday
Weather
The warmest days of the week, thanks in part to their plentiful sunshine and their warmer wind directions… Bank Holiday Monday’s SSW’ly will gradually reduce from moderate force 4 at dawn to light force 1-2 by dusk. Tuesday’s SE’ly breeze will be a gentle force 2-3 for the entire day. Max temperatures will be 21-22°C on Bank Holiday Monday, then as high as 23-24°C on Tuesday.
Surf and the Water
Gorgeously clean west-coast surf… about 4 feet on Bank Holiday Monday, gradually shrining to 2 feet through Tuesday. Swimming conditions should be lovely in all areas for the majority of the time. The only really choppy time/place will probably be Monday morning along the south coast and in some sections of the west coast. Tides will be high at lunchtime (7.9m then 7.2) and low around breakfast time and dinnertime.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
Some thundery showers are expected around the mouth of the Channel on Wednesday, so there is a slim chance that they might move east enough to affect the Channel Islands. However, it currently looks as though that day will most likely be dry and sunny. The next two days will have a bit more in the way of cloud, which will present a further possibility of showers. However, on those days the showers (if any of them manage to bump into the Islands) would probably be much briefer and lighter. Max temps will be about 22-23°C on Wednesday, providing those thundery showers stay well to the west of us. Then, on Thursday and Friday, we will probably peak at 20°C in most parts of the Island, but still reach 21°C in Town. Winds will be light force 2-3 each day (either SW’ly or W’ly).
Surf and the Water
Clean west-coast surf, sometimes very small but never flat… generally 2-3 feet. Pretty smooth conditions for swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking all around the Island but especially along the east coast. Tides will be low in the mornings and high in the afternoons (6.7m, 6.8m and 7.3m respectively).
The next forecast update will be on Bank Holiday Monday evening or on Tuesday morning…
