Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 02 September 2024

Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather

Two days of sunshine and showers, with the showers being most likely in the morning and the sunshine being most prevalent in the afternoons. Winds will be force 3-4 WNW’ly on Tuesday and then just force 2-3 NNW’ly on Wednesday. This means that the east and south coasts will always be warmest by a whisker, but it will never be especially warm due to the air coming down from higher latitudes. On both days, max temps will most likely be 18-19°C in most areas, but we should just sneak up to 20°C in Town. Night time temps won’t be on the low side, even though this is when skies will be cloudiest and showers most frequent… (13-14°C for the most likely minimum on Tuesday night and then 11-12°C on Wednesday night).

Surf and the Water

The west-coast surf won’t be very powerful on either day… 3-4 feet and messy on Tuesday, then about 2-3 feet but quite a lot cleaner on Wednesday. Tides will be on the large side, so this will have a big effect on the timing of your sessions, whether it be surfing or just swimming. Highs will be around breakfast time and dusk (ranging between 8.8m and 9.2m). Swimming conditions will always be best along the south and east coasts.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

Although the forecast for this entire week is a very changeable and uncertain one, these two days certainly pose the threat of the heaviest showers… the most likely times being on Thursday morning and on Friday evening. These showers could be so heavy and prolonged that they give as much as 15-20mm on each occasion. However, they might be focussed just a short distance away from the Islands and end up giving us next to nothing. During the drier times, we should see some sunny breaks and the light force 2-3 NE’ly wind should feel very comfortable. Temperatures will most likely peak at 20°C each day, but they might be a degree or two either side of that figure, depending on the timing of those sunny breaks.

Surf and the Water

The surf will diminish from a rather pathetic 1-2 feet on Thursday to full-on flatness through Friday. Swimming conditions will be lovelies in certain south and west coast corners. High tides will be at 8:50am Thursday and 9:20am Friday (9m and 8.8m respectively). Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.

The Weekend

Weather

Saturday morning might see the persistence of Friday night’s heavy showers, or perhaps they will have already cleared off. Either way, the current expectation is to be dry for the majority of the weekend, with virtually no wind. Therefore, depending on the duration of any sunny spells, we should see higher maxima than the previous days… peaking somewhere between 21 and 23°C.

Surf and the Water

If we do find any rideable surf (1-2 feet at best) then it should be lovely and clean. Swimming conditions should be gorgeous on all coasts. Tides will be high in the mid-mornings (8.6m and 8.3m respectively). Low tides will be in the mid to late afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Friday morning…
