Saturday
Weather
Another day with chilly air coming down from the north. However, the sun will shine for most of the day and the winds will become lighter and lighter, so it should feel pretty lovely, even if you do have to keep your jumpers on. Temperatures will peak in the mid-afternoon at roughly 15°C. Then, in the evening we will reach a minimum of about 8°C, before strengthening SE’ly winds actually blow warmer air over the Islands through the second half of the night.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 3 feet and choppy in the morning, then 2 feet and clean in the afternoon. Swimming conditions will generally become smoother in the afternoon too, although the south coast will also be pretty lovely in the morning. Tides will be lopw around 11am and high around 5 pm (7.2m).
Sunday
Weather
The wind will be force 5-6 SSE’ly in the morning, increasing to force 6-7 in the afternoon, then further increasing force 7 to gale 8 as it veers SW’ly during the night time. This is going to be a bit of a noisy and messy affair, so make sure you have cleared away any furniture or other bits and bobs that you may have had in your garden on Saturday. It will also be wet at times… starting with a few brief showers in the afternoon and then turning to heavier and more prolonged spells of rain during the evening and night. Temperatures will be fairly flat... around 16°C for the max and 14°C for the min.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-2 foot surf in the morning, falling virtually flat in the afternoon. Winds will only just be light enough to consider swimming in the morning (north and west coasts… the earlier the better). The afternoon might be of interest to hardcore windsurfers but certainly not to any other water-users. Tides will be low at 11:50am and high at 5:40pm (7.9m).
Monday
Weather
The windiest time of all will be pre-dawn… force 7 to gale 8 SW’ly. By lunchtime it will still be very blowy, but just a force 6 W’ly. Then, by dusk, things will have simmered down to force 4-5 and outdoor activity won’t be nearly so unattractive. As for the weather, we are probably looking at a cloudy morning, followed by an increasingly sunny afternoon… just the odd brief shower, mainly in the early morning and then again in the evening. Max temps will be around 17°C and min temps will be around 12°C.
Surf and the Water
It’s a very deep low pressure system responsible for the strong winds.. As such, prior to its arrival, it generated some pretty huge swell in the nearby Atlantic, which will batter the west coast with 8-12 foot surf though Monday. The west coast will be horrible choppy but there’s a chance of some very difficult but cleanish waves on the north coast in the morning, then maybe down at petit Port in the afternoon. Swimmers should only really consider the extreme shelter of somewhere like Fermain. Low tide will be at lunchtime. High tides will be around 6:10am and 6:20pm (8.2m and 8.4m respectively).
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
A relatively settled spell for the rest of the working week. Winds will by force 3-4, veering around the compass… NW’ly on Tuesday, NNE’ly on Wednesday, ENE’ly on Thursday and SE’ly on Friday. This clockwise movement is an indication that a high pressure system is progressing eastwards across the British Isles. As such, we can expect quite a lot of sunshine and very few (if any) showers. Temperatures should peak around 16°C each day and fall to a minimum of 10-11°C each night.
Surf and the Water
The surf should be 3-4 feet on Tuesday then 1-2 feet on Wednesday… rather choppy throughout. Then on perhaps on Thursday and most-likely on Friday, we should see conditions clean up significantly but probably only be big enough for longboarders and learners. Tidal movements will be medium-large, with lows at lunchtime and highs around breakfast time and dusk (ranging between 8.5m and 9.2m).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday morning…
