Monday
Weather
Apart from a few showers crossing the area in the morning, probably giving us one or two brief wettings, the day should be largely dry and increasingly sunny. Winds certainly won’t be as strong as the last couple of days but they will still be fresher than ideal… force 4-5, SW’ly to start, then W’ly from late morning. Temperatures will peak at just 12-13°C, so it will feel chilly compared to Sunday’s whopping 18°C, but at least it will also feel lovely compared to last Thursday’s frigid 4°C. Town will be the most sheltered and warmest-feeling area.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 6 foot surf on the west coast. Clean swimming conditions on the east. Winds won’t be nearly as strong as over the weekend but they should still be strong enough for windsurfers and kitesurfers to enjoy. Tidal movements will be very small again, with low water at 8:15am and high water at 2:15pm (just 7.1m).
Tuesday
Weather
Through daylight, the winds will still come from the west but only light force 3, so the whole Island should feel more pleasant (at least during the dry time), even though the temperature isn’t expected to climb any higher than 12°C. Once again, the weather story is one of sunshine and showers, with those showers looking most likely in the morning. The showers will be a bit heavier than on Monday too, possibly with a bit of hail in the mix. Through the night time, we can expect the wettest and windiest conditions, with showers becoming frequent and perhaps prolonged, whilst winds get up to about strong force 6 (SSW’ly before midnight, veering W’ly by dawn).
Surf and the Water
The morning waves will be about 5 feet and choppy but the afternoon waves will be about 4 feet and increasingly clean. Swimming conditions will be best in the east at first and then in the north and west later. Tides will be low at 9:15am and high at 3:10pm (7.3m).
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
After Tuesday night’s unsettled conditions, we should have an increasingly dry and bright Wednesday, with force N’ly breezes (force 4, gradually decreasing force 2-3) brining slightly cooler air to the Island. Thursday and Friday will then have a stiffer (force 4-5) SE’ly wind, which will probably bring dry but cloudy skies from France, locking our temperature very close to that of our surrounding seas… generally fluctuating between nightly minima of about 9°C and daily maxima of about 12°C.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf each day…2-3 feet on Wednesday, 1-2 feet on Thursday, then 3-4 feet on Friday. Tides will be medium-large in size… increasing from a high of 7.7m on Wednesday afternoon, to 8.3m on Friday around dusk.
The Weekend
Weather
A gradual loss of cloud through Saturday, followed by a super sunny Sunday, albeit with the likelihood of a rain on Sunday night. Winds will still be a little perkier than ideal, force 4-5 SSE’ly but the temperature should continue to peak at a reasonable 12°C, so it should feel very pleasant in sheltered areas such as Pleinmont and Richmond, or just beneath the L’Ancresse sea-wall.
Surf and the Water
Clean surf again, probably 4 feet on Saturday and then just 2 feet on Sunday. Swimming conditions will be best in the west and in the north (as close to high tide as daylight will allow). Low tides will be around lunchtime. High tides slightly pre-dawn and post-dusk (generally around 8.6m).
The next forecast update will on Tuesday or Wednesday…
