### Thursday
Weather
A rather cloudy morning, followed by a mostly sunny afternoon. The air will be cold after the passage of the previous night’s rain, with temperatures only climbing to around 7°C in the day time, then falling to 1-2°C in the night time, with a widespread ground frost. Head to the south coast to feel warmest, because this area will be sun-facing and nicely protected from the force 3-4 NNE’ly wind.
Surf and the Water
Maybe some clean south-coast waves in the morning. Otherwise, it’s looking like rather choppy west-coast waves of around 4 feet in the crosswind. The south coast will certainly offer the best swimming conditions. Tides will be high at 8am (9m) and low around 2:30pm.
Friday
Weather
Even colder air on this day, with a max of only 5-6°C, followed by a min of 0-1°C. Skies will be gloriously sunny though and the breeze will only be a light force 2-3 NE’ly, so it will look gorgeous and it should feel pretty comfortable if you are wearing plenty of layers and woolly accessories. Once again… the south coast will be nicest by day and then there will be a widespread ground frost overnight.
Surf and the Water
The west-coast surf will be slightly cleaner, but it will be pretty tiny and weak… only around 2 feet on the sets. Swimming conditions will be best on the south coast again, but not too bad on the other coasts due to the lightness of the onshore breeze and the smallness of the waves. Tides will be high at 8:40am (8.9m) and low around 3pm.
The Weekend
Weather
An overall increase in temperature, as new air comes up from the south. The weather will deteriorate though, with Saturday’s force 4-5 SE’ly wind bringing increasingly cloudy skies and holding the temperature steady around 4-5°C, then Saturday night’s prolonged rain and drizzle ushering in air of around 11-12°C. Sunday’s force 5-6 SSW’ly wind will then maintain the temperature as well as the cloudy skies, whilst showers come and go through day and night… some of the heavy, some of them drizzly.
Surf and the Water
If we get any surf on Saturday then it will at least be clean. However, 1-2 feet is absolutely as much as we could hope for (and even that is a stretch of optimism). Sunday looks much much better though, with a clean 6-8 foot swell as well as some fantastic conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Tides will be around 8.8m high at 9:20am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. Low tides will be at 3:45pm and 4:30pm respectively.
Next Week
Weather
An unsettled and changeable week, with winds generally NW’ly to start the week (bringing showers or longer spells of rain), falling light and variable mid-week (with complete uncertainty about the weather on Wednesday I’m afraid), then finishing off with stronger SE’ly winds (once again brining showers or longer spells of rain). Temperatures will most likely be around average, with daily maxima of 9-11°C and nightly minima of 5-7°C.
Surf and the Water
Tidal movements will be medium-small, with highs around lunchtime at first, creeping into mid-afternoon as the week progresses. The surf will be pretty small and choppy in the first half of the week, then much bigger and much cleaner in the second.
The next forecast update will on Friday or Saturday…
