Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 10 January 2025

Friday

Weather

A grey day, but not especially wet, the bulk of the rainfall having already fallen through the night. What remains is only patchy light drizzle through daylight hours and then pretty much nothing overnight. Temperatures will barely budge throughout… always floating somewhere around 5 or 6°C. However, winds will be moderate force 4 ESE’ly, which will certainly make it feel a few degrees colder than that.

Surf and the Water

Never mind recent rubbish surf, a period of absolute excellent kicks off on this day… 4 feet and super-clean, with a fairly small tidal movement. Low water will be around 9:30am and high water will then be 7.6m around 3:30pm. Swimmers will find the best weather and wind towards the end of the day. The west-coast will be best, but unlike the surfers, avoiding the waves would be best, so Cobo would be an excellent choice to name just one.

Saturday

Weather

A grey sky to commence, but cracks will emerge by late morning, allowing soft sunshine through lunchtime and then some proper bright sunshine in the afternoon and a decent view of the stars and the moon by night. Winds will remain ESE’ly, but only light force 2-3, so this should allow a relatively comfortable max of 7-8°C, followed by a rather chilly overnight min of 4°C, with the strong possibility of a ground frost.

Surf and the Water

A potentially incredible day of surf, with powerful 6+foot waves brushed by gentle offshore breezes. As with Friday, west will be best for swimming too, but only in the bays where offshore reefs offer good shelter from the swell. Tides will be low around 10:30am and then high (7.7m) around 4:30pm.

Sunday

Weather

Oh yes, sunny skies and light force 2-3 SSE’ly breezes. Not much change in temperature, 4-5°C in the colder darker hours, 7-8°C through the late morning and much of the afternoon.

Surf and the Water

The surf will be excellent again, but more like Friday than Saturday in terms of size… still on the large side for beginners but probably preferable for many intermediates. Again the direction of the breeze will mean that the west coast is slightly favourable for swimmers too, although that breeze will be so light that the other coasts will be almost as smooth. Tides will be low at 11:35am and then 8m high around 5:35pm.

Next Week

Weather

We will spend the entire week, shuffling around the centre of a high pressure system. This means it should be dry throughout and the breeze will generally be no stronger than light force 3. It will switch direction from day to day though, probably always between SE’ly and W’ly. This means that we will sometimes have a cooler continental flow and sometimes a milder Atlantic flow. However, nothing will last particularly long, so temperatures will never have too much opportunity to deviate from the January average. Thus, we can expect daily maxima of 8-11°C, just depending on how cloudy or sunny it is. Likewise, thinking about the night time, the amount of cloud cover will determine the minimum temperatures and the likelihood of ground frost… cloudy skies generally yielding mins of around 8°C, and clear skies yielding mins of around 4°C.

Surf and the Water

If such a thing is possible, it looks as though the insanely good run of surf will penetrate well into the week, perhaps all the way through it. Some of the days will be ruffled by a gentle cross wind, and it might be rather misty at times, but the 4+ foot swell should keep pumping through until at least Wednesday, then the current expectation is for Thursday and Friday to more likely get bigger than get smaller.

The next forecast update will on Monday evening…
