Seven day Guernsey weather forecast for 12 March 2025

Wednesday

Weather

This will be the first full day of sitting in the cold airmass, having had last week’s warmth chased away by that rather dismal frontal rain on Tuesday. Now in the cold air, visibility will be fabulous and there will be plenty of sunshine but it will be punctuated by occasional heavy showers, possibly heavy enough to include some hail. During the finer spells, the N’ly breeze will at least be very light, so not to feel very comfortable despite the temperature rising no higher than 8-9°C. Temperatures will be much much lower than that at dawn and then again on Wednesday night, sinking to about 2-3°C in the air and possibly falling to 0°C on the ground (a.k.a. ground frost). Coming back to the showers, they will be fairly few and far between, but the lightness of the breeze (force 2-3) will mean that they move slowly and potentially give us a thorough soaking, so it would certainly be wise to take a brolly or a raincoat with you when you are out and about.

Surf and the Water

Clean 1-3 foot surf, with very long lulls between the sets. Excellent swimming conditions on all coasts, especially the south. Tides will be low at midday then 8.5m high at 6pm.

Thursday and Friday

Weather

These two days will be similar with respect to the force 3-4 NE’ly wind, but the ratio of sunshine and showers will be quite different… the emphasis being more on showers (still heavy with the chance of hail) for Thursday, then more on sunshine for Friday. As such, Friday has the potential to be a little warmer than Thursday, max temperatures 8°C and 9°C respectively.

Surf and the Water

1-2 foot surf on both days, regrettably somewhat ruined by the cross-shore breeze. Once again, the loveliest swimming conditions will be on the south coast, and the relatively large title movements will mean that those beaches look particularly sandy and beautiful for the lunchtime lows. High water will be around dawn and soon after sunset each day… roughly 8.9m on Thursday and 9.1m on Friday.

The Weekend

Weather

Fresh force 5 NE'ly winds will make the steady 6-8°C temperature feel as though it's only 1-3°C. The only way to avoid that would be to find some simultaneous sunshine and shelter. The sunshine will only come in brief snippets, with lots of bubbly cloud casting shadows and occasionally dropping showers on us. It currently looks as though those showers will be most frequent on Saturday, so if you have any outdoor plans then at this early stage I would probably advise steering them towards Sunday. As for the most sheltered spots... southern/central valleys, various stretches of the south coast cliff-paths, or tucked into the northern corners of the west-coast bays (just beneath the sea walls).

Surf and the Water

Not much change in the size of the surf… small to the point of only just being rideable. However, the stronger cross-wind will mean that it’s even messier than the previous days. Probably ok for windsurfing and kitesurfing though. High tides will be at breakfast time (9.2m and 9.1m respectively). Low tides will be in the early afternoons.

The next forecast update will be on Saturday morning…
