Tuesday
Weather
Another day of almost pure sunshine, but on this occasion the E’ly wind will actually get lighter as the day progresses (fresh force 5 gradually dropping to light force 3), which will allow temperatures to climb a little higher than on Monday, peaking around 11-12°C rather than just 9-10°C. The cream of the crop will really be the west coast beaches in the late afternoon. Towards evening, some high cirrus cloud will spread over the Channel, which means that we will probably be treated to a beautifully colourful sunset.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 1-2 foot surf, maybe with a sneaky 3 foot set wave on the reefs. West-coast swimmers will be best suited to the high tide moment, when the sea-walls offer a bit of shelter. East-coast swimmers will be best suited to the late afternoon, when the onshore wind is lightest. High tide will be about 8.6m around 8:45am. Low water will be around 3pm.
Wednesday and Thursday
Weather
The highest temperatures of the week, as the wind will be a force 3-4 SE’ly throughout, bringing a steady feed of warm continental air. The daytime maxima will be 14-15°C on Wednesday, then 16-17°C on Thursday. The skies will be mostly sunny but high cloud will be ever present, often turning the sunshine hazy, sometimes obscuring it altogether. It will always feel comfortable and pleasant though, even in the early mornings and late evenings, when temperatures will still be up to (or very close to) double figures. Once again, the west coast beaches will be the cream of the crop (closely followed by the north).
Surf and the Water
Two days of lovely clean waves, small but rideable… 1-3 feet on Wednesday then 1-2 feet on Thursday. Winds will be light enough for swimmers to be happy on all coasts, but especially on the west coast around high tide. Tides will be 8.2m high at 9:10am Wednesday, then 7.7m high at 9:30am Thursday. Low tides will be in the mid-afternoons.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
The wind will veer to a due S’ly (moderate force 4, perhaps occasionally fresh force 5) and this will allow some showery weather to spill in from the Atlantic. Friday’s skies will be cloudy for the majority of the day, with a band of potentially heavy showers crossing around lunchtime and maybe some briefer lighter splashes through the rest of the day. Saturday and Sunday are also likely to see a few showers, but these will be quite sparsely scattered, so there is a slim chance that we will avoid them altogether. Either way, there will be plenty of sunny spells across the weekend. Furthermore, Sunday’s wind will change to a very light SW’ly, so that should feel more comfortable than the previous days, even though there will be a downward trend in max temperatures… 13-14°C on Friday, 11-12°C on Saturday, then 9-10°C on Sunday.
Surf and the Water
Flat surf on Friday, then a clean 2-4 foot swell building through Saturday afternoon and then staying that way through Sunday. The north and west coasts will be best for swimmers on Friday’s and Saturday’s high tides, and possibly good for windsurfers and kitesurfers through the rest of those days. Sunday’s very light SW’ly winds will hopefully mean good swimming conditions on all coasts. Tides will be high in the late mornings (shrinking incrementally from 7.3m to 6.3m). Low water will be slightly before dawn and dusk.
The next forecast update will be on Thursday morning…
